How It Works

Science meets self-awareness

Biorhythm theory proposes that measurable biological rhythms govern our daily performance. Here's how the calculator works.

1

Enter your date of birth

Your biorhythm cycles start the moment you're born and run continuously. The only input needed is your birthday.

2

Choose a target date

Default is today, but you can check any past or future date — useful for planning important events, interviews, or competitions.

3

Read your cycle chart

Each cycle is plotted as a sine wave. Values above zero indicate a high phase; below zero is a recovery phase. Crossings are critical days.

4

Apply the insights

Use your scores to time workouts, creative work, difficult conversations, or rest days for maximum effect.

💪 Physical Cycle
Governs strength, stamina, coordination, and overall physical vitality. High phase = great for sports, workouts, and physical challenges.
23days
❤️ Emotional Cycle
Influences mood, intuition, creativity, and empathy. High phase = better social interactions, emotional resilience, and creative flow.
28days
🧠 Intellectual Cycle
Affects memory, analytical thinking, decision-making, and learning capacity. High phase = ideal for studying, problem-solving, and strategic planning.
33days
🔮 Intuition Cycle (Secondary)
Linked to subconscious awareness, gut feelings, and spiritual sensitivity.
38days
🎨 Aesthetic Cycle (Secondary)
Governs creativity, appreciation of beauty, artistic sensitivity, and taste.

Compatibility is calculated by measuring how closely both people's cycles align on the selected date. Higher scores mean the cycles are in similar phases — great for teamwork, romance, and shared activities.
The Science & Story

What is a biorhythm?

A biorhythm is a recurring biological cycle that theoretically influences your physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being. First proposed by Wilhelm Fliess in the late 19th century and later expanded by Hermann Swoboda and Alfred Teltscher, biorhythm theory suggests that three primary sinusoidal cycles — each starting at birth — govern how we feel and perform on any given day.

The Physical cycle (23 days) 💪 influences your muscular strength, energy, stamina, and overall physical resilience. During its high phase, athletes often notice they can push harder and recover faster. During the low phase, prioritise recovery over intense training.

The Emotional cycle (28 days) ❤️ governs your moods, intuition, sensitivity, and social warmth. When this cycle peaks, you may feel more empathetic and creative. At its low point, you might feel withdrawn — a good time for introspection rather than important conversations.

The Intellectual cycle (33 days) 🧠 affects cognitive performance: memory retention, analytical thinking, and problem-solving. Peak days are ideal for studying or making major decisions. During the low phase, mentally demanding tasks may require more effort.

Emotional
28-day cycle
Influences mood, empathy, creativity, and sensitivity. Peak days are great for social events, creative work, and meaningful conversations.

33-day cycle
Controls analytical thinking, memory, logic, and decision-making ability. High days are perfect for studying, strategic planning, and exams.
⚡ Critical Days

What are critical days?

A critical day occurs when a biorhythm cycle crosses the zero axis — transitioning from a positive (high) phase to a negative (low) phase, or vice versa. These days represent moments of instability and flux in that cycle.

During a critical physical day, you may feel more accident-prone or fatigued. Critical emotional days can bring mood swings or heightened reactivity. Critical intellectual days may manifest as poor judgment or difficulty concentrating.

A double critical day — when two cycles cross zero simultaneously — amplifies these effects. A triple critical day, though rare, is considered by biorhythm practitioners to be a day requiring maximum mindfulness. Our calculator automatically highlights all critical days in your weekly forecast with a ⚡ icon.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Biorhythm theory was developed in the late 19th century by Wilhelm Fliess, a Berlin physician, who observed recurring 23-day and 28-day patterns in his patients. Hermann Swoboda later built on this independently, and Alfred Teltscher added the 33-day intellectual cycle in the 1920s. The theory proposes that three sinusoidal cycles — starting at birth — govern our physical, emotional, and intellectual states throughout life.
Biorhythm theory is not scientifically validated as a reliable predictive system. However, many people find biorhythm charts useful as a self-reflection framework, helping them notice patterns in their own energy, mood, and focus over time. Treat it as a lens for self-awareness rather than a hard forecast.
A critical day is when a biorhythm cycle crosses the zero line — moving from a positive phase to a negative phase, or the reverse. On these transition days, the cycle's energy is in flux. Physical critical days may bring clumsiness or fatigue; emotional critical days can feel moody; intellectual critical days may involve lapses in judgment.
Each cycle uses the formula: sin(2π × days_since_birth ÷ period). For the Physical cycle, period = 23. For Emotional, period = 28. For Intellectual, period = 33. The result is a value between −1 and +1. Above 0.5 is a high phase, below −0.5 is a low phase, and near 0 (within ±0.1) indicates a critical transitional day.
Yes! Our compatibility tab compares two people's cycle phases on the same date. High compatibility scores mean both people are in similar phases — both physically energised, emotionally open, or intellectually sharp at the same time. Low scores don't mean incompatibility — just that your rhythms are offset on that day.
Beyond the classic three, additional cycles have been proposed: the Intuition cycle (38 days) — linked to gut feelings; the Aesthetic cycle (43 days) — governing creativity; and the Spiritual cycle (53 days) — representing inner harmony. These can be toggled on in the calculator as overlay lines on the main chart.
